#1: Prof. Shoma Sen

Born 1958, of Bengali origin, raised in Mumbai. Head of English Literature Dept., Nagpur University, now retired. A consistent women’s rights activist, a popular one among the deprived women and children of Nagpur. Was the President of Nagpur University Teachers’ Association.

One among who were present over Elgar Parishad event on 31 December 2017, one day prior to Bhima Koregaon incident. Has been arrested for “instigating the Dalits towards violence” and her alleged “active link with banned Communist Party of India (Maoist)” – as claimed by Pune Police.

She was supposed to get felicitated by Nagpur University Teachers’ Association, who were going to release a book on her, acknowledging her role in education and social commitment.
